Apparently in order to maximise advertising revenues, Jamie Packer issued a directive to the ACB that the Australians had to dump game 1.

It's a disgrace the influence media moguls have upon our fine game.

So that was McGath's excuse for dropping Bell?

Birthday, old, sun got in his eyes, over the hill, and a white Bell ... sorry, ball :o

170-1, 15-3. Complacency was punished. The Aussies deserved what they got. Overall they are much better than England, but the Poms are not girl scouts from Whoollaboolla.

Humph. England start playing some vaguely decent cricket as soon as I cancel my sky sports subscription. Not fair.

Still, well played England for actually winning a trophy this winter.

My records suggest that out of the two going this winter, it seems to be 1-1. Therefore a drawn season down under doesn't seem to be that bad a result(!)

Congratulations, especially to Collingwood. It was a pity the match was marred by rain.

Thanks boys.

From now on, Frances may never go and see another match and Mark may never take out a subscription to Sky Sports - ever!!

Indeed. Highlights only of those two - too busy playing bridge/sleeping to watch them (although there was a Sunday morning vote from my husband to watch teletext for a while)

Not a valid excuse. What a luxury! You can sleep when you get old. Meanwhile, enjoy life, and is there anything more enjoyable than cricket?

Cricket is life, the rest (sleep included) is mere details!

they're more cunning than you think, those aussies. I suspect it's all a cunning plan for a late betting plunge before the world cup.

South Africa are now the top-rated one day side in the world.

I think what the latest results show is that even the best sides which appear to have massive strength in depth are still dependent on a few superstar players if they want to win consistently.

I think the Aussies are taking this betting scam a bit too far now. Having scored 181no it appears that Hayden will be missing from the big clash with Scotland on March 14.

With Symonds definitely out and Lee doubtful, after this match Ponting may need to beat SA to go through :)

For those that missed the announcement, Scotland's World Cup squad is:

John Blain, Dougie Brown (Warwickshire), Gavin Hamilton, Majid Haq (Ferguslie), Paul Hoffmann (Uddingston), Douglas Lockhart (West of Scotland), Ross Lyons (Clydesdale), Neil McCallum (Grange), Dewald Nel (Greenock), Navdeep Poonia (Warwickshire), Glenn Rogers (Stenhousemuir), Colin Smith (Aberdeenshire), Ryan Watson (Forfarshire, vice-captain), Fraser Watts (Greenock), Craig Wright (Greenock, captain).

When did Warwickshire move North of the border?

p.s. glad I wasn't watching New Zealand this morning - second record-breaking innings running!

Full name: Navdeep Singh Poonia
Born: May 11, 1986, Govan, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland

Seems kosher to me ... just plying his trade in the money-rich South as you can see from the record of his only first class game at Warwickshire.
