6NT was always cold. Even if EW took the spade ace, we would still have a spade stopper, and we would take all 12 remaining tricks.

But this was a matchpoint game, and if EW did NOT take their spade ace at trick one, I could claim all 13 tricks, and the overtrick would probably give us a better score than "only" taking 12.

Well, I did take all 13 tricks, and I did get a good score.

Not lucky for EW, right? West, the player on lead, didn't guess the best lead of a spade, right? His partner East went to bed with his spade ace when I claimed all 13 tricks, right?

Well, uh, NO - NOT right, because West DID find a spade lead!

So the M.O.R.O.N. in the East stupidly DUCKED his spade ace at trick one, right?

Well, uh, no. Not right again. There WAS indeed a M.O.R.O.N. at the table, but it wasn't East. WEST had led...the TEN OF SPADES (!) from THIS hand: A10952, J3, 754, 864!

Typically stupid lead against South's 3NT by the GIBBO trout in the West: His stiff spade jack...the suit his LHO North overcalled in.

Then when the braindead twit wins his offside heart king at trick three, what does he return? He's a GIBBO robot, so of COURSE he immediately returns a HEART, the same suit DECLARER just played. I.D.I.O.T.

North, usually an egregious OVERbidder, timidly bids 3H rather than 2S. Luckily we reach the fairly good game anyway. Now all I have to do is make it.

I'm off three top tricks (AK of diamonds, ace of clubs), so the key worry is the possible loss of a second club.

To make the hand, I have to figure out the club layout so that I don't lose to the JACK as well as the ace.

But playing against GIBBO robots (some of the absolutely worst "defenders" of ALL time), I saw a way to make the hand WITHOUT having to correctly GUESS the clubs. Against these M.O.R.O.N.S., I simply pulled trumps and played diamonds. These two braindead warthogs took their two diamond tricks and then...SHIFTED TO CLUBS (!!!!), as I EXPECTED they would...and now the club suit played itself, without my having to guess it.

Note that when Superstooge in the West led a club at trick seven, he COULD have SAFELY exited instead with either a diamond OR a spade, in which case I WOULD have had to guess the clubs. (Since EW trumps were were originally 3-1 rather than the 2-2 I had hoped for, I couldn't perform a full strip...but against these hopeless C.R.E.T.I.N.S., I didn't have to.)

It's ALWAYS a good idea, when playing in a game with three GIBBO robots, to assume that your "partner" and your opponents are ALL complete imbeciles and then to play based on that assumption.

Question: When you are playing in a game with three GIBBO robots and your opponents are declaring the contract, what is the biggest clue that they will probably be making it, possibly with overtricks?

Answer: Your GIBBO "partner" has doubled the contract.

Since I had a fairly good hand with 11 cards in the red suits (six diamonds, five hearts), and since it was possible that if we declared, the hand might better be played from North's side (to protect a hypothetical club king in his hand, to cite just one example), I checked to see if there was a way to show a two-suiter over East's 2S call.

The logical way would be for 3S to show a two-suiter, so I checked the definition for a 3S bid by me at this point. I was not at all surprised, given that it was a GIB definition (in other words, one of the worst definitions of all time) explaining a call in the GIB system (one of the most hopeless bridge systems EVER created), that it was an absolute joke: "25+ HCP".

PATHETIC...as ALWAYS.

The silly lead and hopeless "defence" that you would always expect from Halfwit and Dumbo earned them yet another complete zero - something that should officially be named a "GIB Specialty", in honour of Johnny and Donnie.

The hardest part of playing WITH a GIBBO robot is figuring out how to mastermind the auction so that the GIBBO piece of dirt sitting across from you does not make bids that are even more nonsensical than his usual ones.

The hardest part of playing AGAINST the GIBBO pieces of trash is figuring out what they are doing. The trick I use is to think of the stupidest possible thing my GIBBO opponent could be doing, and then work on the assumption that that's what he IS doing. In other words, I use their own unparalleled world-class stupidity against them. Since you know that GIBBO robots are all complete M.O.R.O.N.S., play for them to be complete M.O.R.O.N.S. You will rarely be wrong using this strategy.

If you want a good laugh, check out the woeful "defence" here by Frick and Frack. Among other things, note the discard of the...ACE OF CLUBS.

Yes, they DID "earn" themselves another complete zero for their increasingly massive collection.

We scored 92.9 % on this board. Why? Because the GIBBO I.D.I.O.T. in the West was an even bigger I.D.I.O.T. than the GIBBO I.D.I.O.T. in the North.

Why is North bidding three DIAMONDS...on his mangy little J1076, tantamount to a THREE-level REVERSE, since South will almost certainly not fit diamonds, as EAST...earlier BID...TWO DIAMONDS...AND...South had opened one CLUB and later DOUBLED East's 2C cuebid to show that HE (South) HAD GOOD CLUBS!

And later, why is North LEADING a DIAMOND when he is looking at the ace of clubs in his own hand, and South's double of 2C marked HIM with the KQ of clubs?

So, North is - as always - hopeless. But fortunately West is even worse, because after South RUNS to 3S, West stupidly bids 4H. He does this opposite a "partner", East, who was unable to open the bidding in third seat. Regardless of layout, regardless of result, why does West think bidding 4H is a good idea, looking at HIS hand?

Often, "any" lead might turn out to be "right" or "wrong", depending what the random layout is on any random hand in the often random game of bridge. Often, leads involve some guesswork.

However, despite the foregoing, I think that a huge majority of GOOD bridge players would lead a SPADE from West's hand against South's 3NT.

West was a GIBBO robot. West led a HEART. West got what he deserved!
