GIBBO messes up a 2-card ending! How???

Clubs are trumps; lead is in dummy (North); I'm South. The one outstanding trump is with West, so it will promote or can overruff.

So I lead a spade and ruff with the 2. For some absurd reason, West discards the 5 instead of overruffing. What??? Why?
