What the bleep do I bid now?

A good partner I haven't played much with suggested a jump-shift to 2♠. I would assume that shows 4, but even so, is that maybe the least bad lie here?

If you don't have tools to handle the hand of death, then you're stuck with creativity. 2♠ may work, but could also turn into a disaster if partner holds a 4 card ♠. ;)

2S looks good.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

2S, we might encounter problems if partner is 4-4 in the majors, but I still think it's a better bid than 2D which just seems misdescriptive. Of course artificial methods would help here.

3♦/4♦, according to agreement, will avoid you playing in spades when hearts are better, but will also probably lock you into hearts when NT might be better.

Natural 2NT buries clubs, but avoids problems if partner has 4♠, sometimes your hand it is too good for 2NT, but the stiff queen ain't that great anyway. I think I'd bid 2♠ with this collection, but 2NT is a close second.

2S! as a GF gadget ( Sp may be artificial ) over 1H responses ( as suggested by gnasher awhile back but doesn't claim credit for originality ):

1C - 1H
2S! - 2NT! ( asks )
??
.. 3C = long Cl; Sp was artificial
.. 3D! = ( other minor ) 4 cards Sp
.. 3H = 3 cards Hts, 5+ Cl, Sp was artificial

Hand calls for creativity.

There are several options:
3♣: IMO hand is too strong for 3♣ - though you may want to overlook ur stiff Q♦.
4♦: Only 3card-support, but very good ones.
2NT: stiff Q is disturbing
2♠: Only 3cards

This hand is like "democracy": It is a bad political system, but the best out of the bad ones.

I prefer 2♠.

I used to play that 3♦ shows exactly this shape and range but not in my current partnership.
Similarly, 3♠ would show the 1-3-3-6 hand.

Today I bid 2♠ and if we land in the 4-3 it will be at least playable and may be the best spot, ie opposite ♠KQxx, ♥Qxxx, ♦Jxx, ♣Jx for all the MP's

For those bidding 2♠, how will you respond to partner's 3♠?

4♣ and hope to land in a 5-3 ♥ fit if there is one.

Oops, on 2nd thought, 4♥ and let pard pick. She might take the 1st one for a slam try in spades period.

I'd bid 2NT.

Ugly situation; if prd would not pass to 3 ♣( as s/he shld not do) that would be best. 4♥ would require 1 more card in ♥. 2♠ is dangerous because its higher suit than ♥ and we could be moysian in 4 level and have 5-3 ♥ as a side suit. 2Nt with singleton Q is also unatractive bid, prd raises to 3 Nt 3532 hand.
Im not saying 2 ♦ is clearly a best bid, but lets hope prd wont pass it and turns out to have a 5 card ♥ suit. If s/he bids 3 Nt to 2 ♦ u can always bid 4♥.

More to the point, is partner prohibited from bidding 4♠?

Over 3S I bid 4H, over 4S I pass. This seems clear.

Gnasher and his teammates seem to have these problems well in hand... here is the "Scoltock Adjunct":

2♦ artificial, 2♥ asks, after which:

2♠ = 2♦ was a natural reverse
2NT= " with spade stopper
3♣ = 6-3 in ♣ and ♥
3♦ = not sure; maybe natural reverse with more shape
3♥= hand too good to raise to 4♥

I do...but this hand does not qualify.

1C - 1D; 1H - 1S; 2C - 2H; 3C would be ok though. Opener shows 18-20 with clubs, Responder <9 with hearts. Easy game...

I usually bid 1S as one round forcing here and 2S as C one suiter 6+C, 16+, 3C shows invitational value with strong clubs. I think that's the easiest treatment here.
