Partner opens 3 clubs after pass. Opponent passes. What is the correct response?

Passing is normal. Game is really low percentage in either nt or a minor, requiring very specific lucky holdings. Pass is best chance to stay low enough for a plus score.

Once in a blue moon partner has something like void, xx, xxxx, KQJ109xx and game is on, way more often he has xxx, xx, x, AKJxxxx and you're struggling to make anything.

Pass. 3D is forcing and I don't want to climb higher than 3C with strong evidence of a misfit.

PASS
Echoing the slim pickings for making game AND actually hoping against hope the opps come in since it seems our best chance at a positive score at this point is by defending.

Easy pass here and once in a while you may get a bonus when LHO has most of the missing HCP and bids something.

Vulnerability matters, please mention it.

Partner being in 2nd seat, except at Red vs. Green, 2nd seat ..., I would
pass without much pause,
Red vs. Green, I may bid unhappily 3NT, I would not be surprised if it
goes down.

With kind regards

I rank:
  • Pass = NAT. Sensible.
  • 3 = NAT. F1. Hoping partner has shortage.
  • 3N = NAT. Brave.

A smooth pass will get a balance on your left (and the hammer to follow) much more often than a bid will improve things.
