Hi all !

Hi have seen recently a growing interest by members about a better management of BBO convention cards.

Also, there has been a thread recently by Fred/Uday suggesting that burden on the BBO server will be increasing to a danger level.

In view of the above arguments, I wonder whether it would help to store all the members' profile information AND convention cards on separate web pages, probably on a different server.

This would save space on the BBO main server, as well as many accesses.
In order to access a player's profile, one would click on an hyperlink, that would point to the profile web page, much similar to how yahoo (or BBFORUM) profiles work.

Also, this would save a lot of implementation and design details for the future: the layout of a profile page or of a convention CC page could be modified quickly with most any webpage editor.

Dunno whether anyone has already posted this, just my 2c anyways

I think we will indeed be readdressing the whole CC issue as we find the time. I think we'll wind up be storing CCs on our server, not each users PC, just like friends/enemies/notes.

We're mulling over how to do this. If you know of any decent web-based CC or system editors that can produce CCs in more than one format, drop me a line: uday@

I've never seen any kind of "web based" convention card editors. In theory, I don't see any reason why someone couldn't write a java-based editor and have this execute within a browser. In practice, I don't see any real advantages in doing so.

Please note: I'm a VERY big fan of HTML based convention cards. I believe that web browsers are a great tool to display convention cards. Just not sold on the editing piece...

Here are a couple thoughts:

To start with, I think that you need to carefully consider how you expect players to use HTML based convention cards: More specifically, do you expect that the HTML based cards are tools for established partnerships? Alternatively, do you expect these to be used by pick-up pairs...

Based on my experience, very few "pickup" pairs bother to post convention cards. Accordingly, I suggest that the tool be designed for fairly serious partnerships. I believe that the needs of pickup players would best be served by providing a small number of more comprehensive cards documenting a variety of standard systems (2/1, SAYC, Acol) etc.
