Yes, you need a very tight range if you are going to be taking up so much room.

My preferred method is to define a splinter as having 3 or 4 controls (where an Ace is two and a King is one) and not very much in Queens and Jacks (maybe one). OR a monster that isn't going to respect a sign-off.

Please note, many people (myself included) prefer a style in which the splinter bidder can has to discrete ranges.

There is a weak range where it is assumed that opener will take control if slam is going to be found.
There is also a strong range where responder is willing to seize captaincy after a signoff. (As I play it, if the splinter bidder uses Blackwood, the responses are Exclusion for captain's short suit)

True.

I didn't say it because I recommend using mixed controls on this hand, but just in reply to Liversidge who thought that mixed-controls wouldn't work on this hand.

Cyberyeti already mentioned that RKC would also get you there if you play void-showing responses.

However, both are risky. Showing a void in addition to just a single keycard can get you too high sometimes.
