So basically east played ace other club and had Qxx heart and switched to the diamond 5 after the heart Q. His partner pitched a club on the third round of hearts.

Defenders are udca.

I will opt for playing east to have begun with one/two spades including the K. There does not seem to be much room in their hand after we assume the following:

What was with the give up play of another club at trick 2. Surely with a singleton dia it must be right to hope p has the trump K and can give a dia ruff keeping declarer from picking up the suit with Jxxxx. To me this indicates a most likely at least xx in diamonds. The 2c overcall is fairly crummy looking even with 6 clubs along with spade K heart Q and balanced hand. So I play rho for K(x) Qxx Q(x) AJTxxx and opt for laying down the spade A hoping to drop the singleton K then playing low to hope the Kx catches air.

Am I alone in thinking that is a fairly disgusting 2nd seat opening in 2/1 - were N-S playing Precision? On the play, there seems to be a clue in the play to the previous trick. If we were going to start with ♠A it would have been better to overtake the ♥9, no? Instinctively ♠A and ducking feels right so it is surely not the right play on this hand.

I think if W, holding 5 clubs, would pre-raise nowadays. Therefore, I would play E to have 6 clubs.So cash the 2nd diamond, if E follows, play him for 2-3-2-6, spade to A and duck. If E has stiff diamond, intra-finess, play W for Jx or 10x in spades.

Yes I have more guesswork if W put up ♠J or 10.

Then you cannot intra-finesse, after 3 rds of diamonds. That's why I only play 2 rds.
