Many of the expert pollsters, incl. a few pro-GOP pollsters, are predicting a Democratic Party control of the House post elections. Some are even predicting a hefty margin (like a +40 differential).

There is a smaller but not insignificant chance that Democrats will have outright control of the Senate too.

IMO, the key question becomes: Will the Dems impeach Trump as a matter of priority? And will the Dem Senators then convince a handful of GOP colleagues in order to effect the conviction?

I just can't imagine that the American public will vote any other way.
A conviction requires a 2/3 majority — a little more than a handful of GOP deserters.

Right. If the Democrats do take over the Senate, it will be a hair-thin majority. They probably won't even be able to defeat fillibusters, which would require 8-10 defectors. 15 defectors to convict on impeachment would be impossible.

Correct, to impeach Convicted Felon Trump in the house requires a simple majority. There's a good chance the Democrats don't win the Senate, in which case they need at least 17 votes from the opposition to convict in the Senate. Note that in Convicted Felon Trump's second impeachment after he instigated an insurrection and attempted coup on January 6, 2021, only 7 out of 50 Convicted Felon Trump cult members in the Senate were willing to convict in the impeachment trial.

How many of them are even running for reelection this year? Most of the Republican senators who have been standing up to Trump in the past year are lame ducks (either by choice or by being primaried).

No matter which party gains the majority, I think we can expect that the Republican caucus will be even more united next year than they are now.

Well, 4 of the 7 who voted to convict have already left the senate. Bill Cassidy was primaried by a Convicted Felon Trump cult member endorsed by Convicted Felon Trump, so he'll be gone in January 2027. Susan Collins is running for reelection in November, but she was behind in the polls, and just go exposed in a pay to play corruption scandal in which Convicted Felon Trump ordered the FBI to shut down an investigation into Collins. The other senator is Lisa Murkowski who has 2 years left in her term, and would be expected to vote to convict in an another impeachment trial.

I have often heard Lawrence O'Donnell refer to Donald J. Trump as the stupidest person ever to be president of the United States. It's unfortunate that Convicted Felon Trump escaped the legal penalties that his lawbreaking merited. The USA would be much better off with Donnie in the Big House than in the White House.
