No agreement means 4H = natural, so that's my bid.

Serious question - do you go by the name of Lord Moly B down at the club?

If 90% of the club agrees on something, then that is what is "standard" there. If playing with a pickup partner or if having an undiscussed sequence with a newish partner, when in Rome...

chances of making 4h are pretty slim opposite any minimum
so I prefer a 3h bid which has to be taken as natural unless
otherwise advised. No where near the power needed for a 2h bid
and x seems really scary when one realizes p may pass it (ewwww).

A second advantage of 3h is that the dia suit becomes very tough for
the opps to bid in case they have a huge fit there. 2h accomplishes this
but not as well. I agree with the novice.

I don't think 4 has a standard meaning, and I would never bid it in this auction without an agreement as to what it was. My default agreement is that it is a fit jump,

3 too?

yeah. 3 too. Or, more specifically, they are raises with values/shape and a desire for a heart lead should we be defending.

Just as an add to this, from memory Robson-Segal suggests all such jumps to 4M being natural except this one, where our suit is spades. They play this one as a fit jump. So clearly there is not a universal standard here. Without agreement 4 should be to play though.

It is difficult to play without agreements, but in their absence I would have thought all of 2 3 and 4 were natural. If you have not agreed non-forcing free bids then 2 has to be the strongest of these, so therefore I would not bid that. However, I may not disagree with 90% of the club, because they may all play 2 as non-forcing.

If your not 100% sure about your agreements its natural. Using a jump to 4M as fit jump is a lame agreement imo. Planning to go 3M (forcing) followed by 4M if fine when the opps are friendly enough to pass but it doesnt always go that way.
From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."
