I am surprised this is not a 2 opening for you! but perhaps that is with a different partner.

What would 5NT be over 5?

My 2 opening needs to be adjusted with some of the ideas posted here to reach the grand legitimately. I have now done that as follows –

Notes on the bidding:
1. 2NT by North = 10-13 HCP, suit length and HCP concentrated in the minor suits
2. 4 by South = Sets the trump suit, initiating a 6-card RKCB sequence at the same time
3. 5 by North = 2-keycards with the lower queen
4. 5 by South = We have all the keycards, cue-bid searching for the grand
5. 5NT by South after North's 5 = We have 12 top tricks, can you supply 1 more for the grand?
6. 7 by North = Yes, I have a singleton plus an extra . This should be easy!

So I borrowed some of the ideas in this thread to get to the grand legitimately.

What's the problem?

1. If 2 is GF:
1 - 2C GF
3 - 3
4 RKCB(6)
....5
7

if you use 4 as splinter, then

.... 3
4NT 5
7

2. If 2 is not GF for u, then

1 2 GF
2N stoppers in both majors cues follow
....3
3 3
4 4NT
5(3) 5 Qask
6 7

or

1 2
2 control
...3 control
3 3 second round control
4 control
... 4NT
5(3) 5 Q ask
6 7

3. If you open 2 it follows:
2 2N
4 5 2+1Q (as per 5th edition of RKCB, Edwin Kantar, sequence abovementioned is obsolete)
5 5
7
or 5 CAB instead of 5
....6 (2nd round control)
7

It is not a good idea to include a stiff A in the splinter bids. It might be good one time, but in the long run it will be misleading. Some experts even treat a stiff K as Kx for this matter.

Splinter, please! That helps to see where tricks are coming.

Basic system is 2/1:

What now? South has 3 losers to get rid of. How must the bidding continue now to find the grand? North's bidding has shown 5 clubs and 4 diamonds. That leaves 4-cards in the majors, 2 are taken care of by South's two aces. What about the other two?

given your auction...if south can now show KC and all keycards...north can jump to 7.

Also with extra length north might show that or QD IN RESPONSE TO KEY CARD ASK.

north MIGHT start with 3s or 2c...I kinda like 3s but 2c is fine.
After 3s south can start cuebidding stuff.

I wonder if 1d 2c 3s (splinter and club fit) would have solved all of
your problems??? you may have a 3s bid meaning something else but sometimes
the easiest answer is the best:))))))))))))))))))

Answer to the title question - does not assume 2/1

1 precision 16+, not 4441 and 16-23 (Oliver Clarke variation)
2 8+ and 5+ clubs
2 - control ask for aces and kings
2NT - 4 controls A=2, K=1
3 agrees trump and asks about club support (at this point p has AA or AKK)
3 2 of 3 top honors and exactly 5 clubs (p known to be AQxxx)
4 control asking bid in diamonds
5 1st and 3rd round control Ax, AQ(x)(x)(x) - this clarifies controls to A in each minor suit
5 control ask in spades with just barely enough room - responses of 5N= no control or 1st and 2nd, 6C = xx or Qxx, 6D = 2nd round control
5 - 2nd round control
7 - since Kx(x) has already been eliminated partner has singleton spade

Can count 1 spade, and 3 spade ruffs, 1 heart, 4 diamonds, 4 natural club tricks.

After 1 - 2, I am rebidding 2, denying 5+ 's and not promising extras.
Don't want to miss my Major fit, if there is one. :)

South knows North has a GF with 54 in the minors and he knows 10HCP.
North cant have any add. HCP in the minors, since all 20HCP in the
minors are acoounted for.
=> Would North really make a GF with 5422 and no major suit control?
The worst you could have maybe Qx in both majors, but maybe North would
have suggested NT on the road?
With kind regards

The best is to not to start blackwood after that double fit being found. Cue bidding will do the job.
