OK, so we've all seen it by now. I really dislike the changes to the forum. Hopefully the moderators will reconsider.

Please vote in the poll.

The problem with this poll is that the users who will get the most benefit from the change (except the moderator who has to keep moving their posts to the correct forum) will never see it. It's a very biased sample.

Isn't that our point? The occasional users who will maybe benefit are not among the vast majority of us who use the site's forums on a regular basis.

I didn't think it was the greatest april fools day prank ever, but if this many people are really fooled I take it back!

You can minimise the entire section and never have to look at it again, if that is what you want. This really seems like it should be a non-issue.

Thank you for sharing. I think we knew that one solution for having to view things in an inconvenient order is not to look at them at all.

Heh.

Sadly I think whoever made this change really thought it would be an improvement.

I hope it was just a joke though. If it is, do we really have to put up with it all day?

I think its good but the whole forum could do with restructure- merge Technical support and bug report- BBO staff treat them the same anyway. Put that first in BBO section, then announcements, rest of BBO section is fine but restructure the Bridge area- at least put beginner then intermediate then expert. I think Junior and Young BBO should be merged since never get enough activity- together they would be stronger. Find a partner also doesn't get enough activity but I don't know what to merge that with.

There you go with those helpful suggestions, Cloa, while the rest of us would rather whine.

Don't most people look at "new content" when they log in anyway? (Yes, I know that "New Content" refreshes frequently and early unread posts can be kicked off, but perhaps that is what should be changed -- give us the ability to look at new content a) from a specified time and date and b) since we last logged out).

Why is so hard for people to phrase a poll in a neutral way? I use the forums mainly to discuss bridge, but I don't care what order the forums are displayed in.

The question clearly asks "Do you want the forums back the way they originally were?"

If you don't care either way, then vote accordingly.

Then just give the poll choices as Yes, No or Don't Care- not with some run on phrase.

One obvious solution that would seem to serve both sides would be to move the General BBO Discussion forum into bridge-related discussion, possibly relabelled, and make it the first forum (above General). That would avoid everyone having to scroll through the more technical forums but still be an easy place for new posters to find.

No, it wasn't an April Fool prank.

I think the poll is written in a very biased fashion. Consider the alternative formulation: "In the Bridge Base Forums, should forums about BBO or bridge be shown first?" Doesn't it seem natural that BBO forums should be first?

I know people dislike change, but I don't think this change is so horrible. I think you'll get used to it quickly (I admit that I find it confusing at first, since things aren't where I expect them to be). And as someone posted, if you don't care about the BBO category at all you can minimize it.

I know people in charge like to disregard all criticism of their decisions under the slogan 'There there, you will get used to it' but surely it can't hurt to consider listening to them every now and again?

Then, respectfully, it's a total joke. You should consider that it was so ridiculous it appeared to be an April Fools Day prank. You should also consider that what, 95% maybe, of all the posts made are now going to be less convenient, with the rest more convenient.

Gwnn is right. It's always so easy to say "people will get used to change after disliking it at first" and use that to overlook that the particular change may be dumb, even if people will get used to it.

Sorry I think this is so dumb I can't even leave the complaint at one post. I read your announcement post again. Is "the main purpose of this discussion board is to support BBO" your opinion or a fact that is stated somewhere? Because I think most of us would disagree with you, including the many of us who have been posting on the forums for years longer than you have worked for BBO. Please listen to your members, particularly the ones who care more!

Is it very important? Of course not. Will we get used to it? Of course. But was it the right decision? No way. It will be a perpetual annoyance to most of the members.
