Help
Hi all
I have been wondering, what exactly "third hand high", "second hand low" and "splitting honors" rules mean. Do they relate to the very first trick played in the play, the one started by the opening leader? Or do they relate to any trick played? How do they exactly work, and, especially, why?

Novice and Beginner forum.
Those particular terms relate to tricks played in general. They are covered in detail in beginning defensive bridge texts, the best of which IMO are Bill Root's "How to Defend a Bridge Hand", and Eddie Kantar's "Eddie Kantar teaches Modern Bridge Defense". You'll see a dozen+ examples of each term.
