Anonymous downvotes is obviously a bad system:

1) Make rep transparent
2) Allow users to see which of their posts are being repped (if the point is positive/negative reinforcement but they never have any idea which of their posts are being repped...)
3) Make it a rule that retaliatory downvoting is not allowed.

These are all pretty standard on most forums that have rep. It is easy to see how on a forum where you can have multiple accounts, and all accounts get equal votes, and you can anonymously downvote, how one person who doesn't like someone can ruin their rep forever, with no consequences.

This is already part of the system; I can see that my post announcing that downvoting is now allowed is -5, whereas my subsequent post about when I think downvotes are appropriate is +2.

Edit: It would be nice if it were easier to filter, or if up/down votes showed when I "view my content".

Do you have to look at your individual post or does it say it somewhere? If you are a post-tard like me and make 40 a day sometimes then go away for a while, you have no idea which got + or - voted unless you go back and look through all 40 which youre not gonna want to do.

Unfortunately, it appears that you cannot search for your non-zero-rated posts. But, recent posts that are garnering votes are also likely to be garnering responses, so if you View New Content, you're likely to see most of the votes on your recent posts.

Yes, I know that. What I'm saying is that that is very time inefficient for someone who posts a lot. It seems like it'd be pretty easy for the admins to solve it with the message board settings, but I don't really care that much.

What's going on? Is everyone practicing their downvoting technique?

Perhaps someone is taking seriously the idea of retaliatory downvoting being disallowed. So they are downvoting all regular posters to make sure no-one is allowed to downvote them....

I got downvoted for saying 1NT was a better opening bid that 1 in certain topic in the non-natural systems board. It suits me for nosing in topics I don't know much about.

It would be nice to know how to show clubs after opening 1 on a 3=3=2=5 or any (332)5, though.

Anyway and to stay in-topic, can the same person who opened downvoting take away the anonimity of it?

Observing the ratings of the last few posts here, I got an idea:

Maybe it is a winning strategy to argue in favour of upvoting while keeping one's mouth shut about downvoting. After all, you want to draw the attention of those who are keen on upvoting (so that they can upvote you), while avoiding the attention of those who are keen on downvoting.

By the way, now that we have a thread about the Nash Equilibrium of Bridge, maybe it is time to get a thread about the Nash Equilibrium of the Reputation Game? According to Dawkins, the best strategy that has been devised so far is the tit-for-tat strategy. However, that requires that you can see who up-and-downvoted you.

Seriously guys? Read the topic title. :(

I didn't want to post because I wanted to make sure that all posts in the thread had a + reputation, but now I can't do it anymore :(

for the record, kittens were effective at deterring posters from starting bad threads and changing the OP to argue with experts.

if people are going to troll with downvotes, i suggest we adopt the cute, cuddly method rather than this internet tough-guy anonymous method.

Rain considering changing the format here:

http://www.bridgebas..._40#entry552403

Main 2 items that need to be changed:

-No anonymous downvoting
-Need 100 posts before you get to rep people (to stop smurf accounts).

If you agree with me post there.

Playing precision... 1 is the systemic bid. It shows maximum 11-15HCP with 2+ (11-13 balanced included).

As Hog said later in the thread: "If you don't like the system bid, play another system."

It's actually quite lame that we can vote for posts in the watercooler, it undermines the objective of the voting system. Anyway, go ahead gwnn, give me my upvote. :P
