Seemed straightforward enough, but I don't remember it coming up in the recent past (other than Saturday, when I didn't like it)

NV vs. NV, matchpoints. Partner deals and bids 1, then -

(p) - 1 (1)
X* (p) - ??

X = support double.

Anyone have a bid he or she particularly likes? If not, what's least bad? Seems like kind of a bread & butter hand/auction, but struck me awkward.

I would bid 1N, RHO did not raise spades and we have an 11 count so it is very likely partner has some length/strength in spades.

I don't really want to play a 4-3 heart fit even though it could be right so I don't like 2H though it would be my second choice.

I definitelyyyyyy don't want to play a minor (matchpoints!!) so I hate 2m.

I don't mind going slightly low with no spade stopper and no aces at MP white where I expect partner to open pretty aggressively, and think any kind of invite sucks.

fwiw

1nt

1d=p=1h=(1s)
x!=p=?
---------------

for me 1d=1n ...is 6-11 quite a wide range......

at least here I think pard can guess I am at the top of my range.

Yes I know I have no spade stopper.

---------------

option two =2d not 1nt.

----------

edit: glad for once I bid the same as Jlall without seeing his post.

but good problem...very good.

Would you still bid 1NT if this was IMPs?

Hi,

2S - as long as it is not gf, if 2S is GF - 2C.

Most likely 2C should show add. strength anyway, with min values you
could simply bid 2H.

With kind regards
Marlowe

PS: I dont pay much attention to MP vs IMP, but MP is certainly a factor,
one should take into account.

you have to bid 2 rather than 2?

Hi,

That was just a though, that occurred to me, your hand is obviously
a counter example.

The first question to answer would be, is 2C forcing or nonforcing,
your hand would be an argument to play 2C as nonforcing, the original
hand would be an argument to play it as forcing, after all we have an 11
count, i.e. we would like to make a move toward game, e.g. the suggested
1NT response could be 1 Ace lighter.

Since I also believe, that 2C is nonforcing I would go with 2S, but my feeling
is, that most players would assume, that 2S would create a game forcing
action (some may even assume, that it agrees hearts as trumps).

With kind regards
Marlowe

Even red at imps I would bid 1N, but I would at least be nervous in that case heh.

I'm fine rebidding 1NT at mps. If I was just a hair stronger I'd bid 3 as the only reasonable way to invite. We might get to invite anyway like P 2 p 3(3?) or something.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

Yeah I guess at imps vul 3D might be ok. Obv at MP it is a disaster to end up in a MINOR SUIT though when you could play NT or a FOUR THREE MAJOR SUIT.

On a related note, who plays that 2C is forcing and who doesn't?
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

Never heard of playing it forcing, not surprised some people might think it is though if they haven't really thought much about it.
