In local news a politician has been arrested
http://www.washingto...0111206845.html
but that's hardly new. The interesting part:

We are told that when he and his wife were arrested, the FBI recovered $79,600 that she had stuffed in her bra.

This is possible? I've heard of breast enhancement but...

No pictures were available.

No offense intended, I am just trying to imagine how this would look.

Let's start to try the scientific proof...

$79,600 = 8 packs of 100 x 100 USD notes.

1 pack = 1cm x 15,55 x 6,67 = 103,72 cm3 x 8 = 829,76 cm3 = volume of $79,600

What should we conclude from this fact?

Let's take this one step further.

840 cc /2 = 420cc (volume per side)
assuming roughly a 15 cm x 15 cm surface area to cover on each side, that leads to stack 15x15x2 cm. (6"x6"x1", give or take a little)

So if care is taken in stacking it's possible for this stuffing to occur, and under some initial conditions, with appropriate masking, might even look natural.

It was done with the FBI beating at the door. My guess is that it did not end up looking very natural. But the volume is less than I would have expected. A liter is about a quart so I guess it's a little less than a pint on each side. I would have expected it to be more. 796 bills seems like a lot of bills.

I'm not so sure about this 15cm by 15cm idea, assuming you are not going to cut the bills there are constraints. You can fold them of course, but it would take time.

The FBI had a wiretap so they heard her husband tell her where to hide them, but I think that the agents who arrested her found the bills before hearing of the wiretap. This does not surprise me.

Anyway, it's obviously not a serious topic but the idea of someone stuffing close to $80,00 in her bra and then trying the "Cash? What cash? I don't see any cash" approach struck me as amusing.

Pecunia non olet?

It isn't true.

German Custom Control uses special trained dogs looking for high amounts of cash, especially at the airports or near the border to Luxembourg for example. I watched one of them in action, a Schäferhund which immediately smelt a secret cache with over 50.000€ hidden in the car. ( In Germany you have to declare to the Custom Authorities anytime cash amount > 10.000 )

It's finally Zamboni season. In related news, our local game ranger says this year there will be a two-week muzzle-loading firearm season. Why anyone would want to kill a Zamboni with a muzzle loading firearm is a mystery to me, though.

Perhaps because if you miss your first shot, the time it will take to reload will give the Zamboni a fair chance to retaliate.

I can see it now: "Hunter killed by angry Zamboni", or "State Police stopped a Zamboni on Highway 13 today. Draped across the front of the Zamboni was the body of a hunter, together with his muzzle-loading rifle. Asked to explain, the Zamboni claimed self-defense, and said he planned to mount the hunter on his wall".

Well, it may have been in response to this headline:

That's an urban legend - like curling is an urban legend. There is no such thing as a "Zamboni driver". There are only Zambonians, a rare species born and raised on the backs of Zambonis which have a symbiotic relationship with shaved ice.

They aren't really all that modern - most haven't even heard of Pat Benetar.
