the difference between strong 4333 and good 3316 is that partner is much more likelly to be strong when we hold the hand with less HCP.

I think East has an obvoius reopening of 3 I might even reopen without Q. But my live overcalls are very sound. Once we agree tha the must reopen, 4 is an option of course.

Late to the party here, but P seems pretty clear cut.

A direct 3N may work out *if* that's our final resting place, but what's keeping pard from taking the bid too seriously?

And it is also more likely that LHO will be strong when we hold the hand with less HCP.

What do you agree, to never hold a 23 count?

Aren't you also missing the solid suit and side aces that one would normally use to justify the lack of a stop?

Yes, but what can you do? Pard rates to have some balanced 12-14 and opposite that I'd like to try 3NT.

I guess I could invoke hamman's 3rd law: "when 3N is an option, bid it"

I would also pass, but considered 3NT. 4C bidders should join the Croatian mailing list.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

That would be a good beginning. :D

I do believe that hands that merit a gutsy 3NT far outweigh those 23-counts.

Of course bidding can get you to high, but passing can get you to low.

What's funny is how much of a hurry so many of the passers are to bid 3NT over partner's ROX

the Freman, Chani from the move "Dune"

No, you agree not to cater for the possibility that the overcaller has a 23-count.
