I don't think anyone is saying the X isn't penalty, just that with 0=5=6=2 you can pull it if you want...

actually a lot of people are saying you cannot pull it if you want. They are wrong. You can legally pull it, but probably won't do it again, with this same partner.

If I understand you correctly you are saying that having pulled the trigger on the 2 bidder he is ready to pull the plug on his CHO :)

Quite awful. After a little thought I decided to pull, which was a very bad choice... but it got worse.

I bid 4NT and partner bid 5 which RHO doubled, passed back to partner who thought that I should be punished for pulling... and bid 5NT! LOL

Dummy was Q9xxx Jxx AKQ xx. -1400. $@&%. I'll be passing in the future.

If pds X is penalty, and can't play in either 's or 's opposite this hand, then he should have passed, not X'd. So 4NT is absolutely clear.  If pd doesn't like it, get a new pd!

Bill

Silly comment. You want partner to pass on KQJT and a card because partner will take it out? LOL!

By the way, just noticed partner's hand:

You might like to ask partner where the hand that he held during the auction is. This is nowhere near a double.

X is pen., you have one trick for the defence, when you could
have 0, so Pass.
How happy I am? No idea, but it the auction is rational, I follow
the rational auction ... assuming therational auction crosses my
mind.
