Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the 3.

Seriously. If partner can support hearts twice, why didn't he do so on the first round? 2 or 3 would make a lot more sense (and have kept the opps out of our auction too).

If we pass and partner puts down KQxxx KJx xxx xx, is that just unlucky, or did one of us misbid?

Yes, pard.

You don't dbl that hand. You cue in support of hearts.

FWIW, I'm not all that sure I would beat up Responder for the double here.

Suppose partner has 3/4. Maybe he is concerned about the risk of a third-seat opening where Opener has 4-4 in the majors, an uber-weak hand, and a desire for a heart lead. This is not a pure situation, as Opener may well have a four-card heart suit.

Yeah, pard should read some books. A hand that bids like pard did shows diamond values.

If the x shows 4+S, just as a matter of interest, what does 1S show?
Anyway your partner should raise h with this hand.

That means that you want a spade lead if LHO accepts your insufficient bid.

I don't understand the criticism of partner's bidding (either before or after Gwnn told us what his hand was). Partner has a fairly balanced 3-card raise with a spade suit, and he found a way to show it. What's so bad about that?

I would certainly criticize it since partner just got lucky to be able to show his hand, on many auctions he would never be able to show his heart support.

However since he did get to show his hand, and in this case it could have helped us if anything, it's certainly wrong to assign him any blame for the result.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.
