I would just invite with 4. If partner passes this, I think we are probably high enough.

3.

[Added] I think this hand is much too powerful for light action. I think that, if Leb is available, 3 is still and more right because of the first-round spade control.

And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

Don't we play Lebensohl here? If we do, would it be ridicolous to bid 3?

I think you mean "good/bad" Helene, not lebensohl. Playing this I bid 3D else 4D.

I would always drive to game with this hand. Is 3D forcing playing G/B?

No its not. I wonder if 4 is forcing playing that.

Hi,

4D.

If you happen to play 2NT as some kind of Lebensohl,
than it is either 3D or 2NT followed by 3D.

As it is, this is certainly not standard, and the hand is
too strong for a simple 3D bid.

This of course assumes, that X showed both minors,
and may not be based on a bal. hand with 10-12.

With kind regards
Marlowe

PS: 4D is certainly not forcing, but highly invitational.
With kind regards

This is a hand from the European championships. I was kibbing Russia v France. Both tables doubled here, and I didn't get it.

I don't think there is anything wrong with double. Partner won't pass it and it may give us additional information at a low level - imagine he takes it out to 3.

I expect that the point of double was to bid 3 over partner's 3, showing a forcing 3 bid.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn
