16.3 million is more like it. :)

From the BBC Home page, here are the standings in qualifying group D of the UEFA Champions League, with one round (Dec 5) to go.

Quote

UEFA Champions League : Group D Table
28 November 2007 21:39
                                    P W D L F A GD PTS
1 AC Milan                      5 3 1 1 11 5 6 10
2 Celtic                          5 3 0 2 5 5 0 9
3 Shakhtar Donetsk          5 2 0 3 5 9 -4 6
4 Benfica                        5 1 1 3 3 5 -2 4

AC Milan have sealed their place in the last 16 and a draw at home to Celtic in the last game will take them through in first place. A draw would also take Celtic through, but if the Scots lose in Milan, they will miss out on the knockout stages if Shakhtar beat Benfica at home.

That would leave Celtic and Shakhtar on nine points, but the Ukrainians would go through on head-to-head having beaten Celtic 2-0 at home and lost only 2-1 at Parkhead. Celtic will top the group if they win in the San Siro.

As explained by the BBC, if Celtic and AC Milan draw, both qualify (this is worth about $20MUS to each team).

I'm predicting a 0-0 draw. Any takers?

It's not that clear. This is quite different from the time Arsenal and Porto drew 0-0, cause they both put their qualification in danger.

I watched the 2nd half of the milan-celtic match. Was quite worth my getting up at 4.30 am I must say.

Benfica refused to follow the script and managed to win 2-1 at Donetsk, which the commentators were saying was quite a feat since Donetsk has a rather different climate from Portugal.

So the 1-0 scoreline in Milan turned out to be inconsequential to the champions league qualification. Benfica did manage to haul themselves into the Uefa cup though.

I guess Codo was only counting the Dutch in Mallorca.

Since both Celtic and AC Milan knew at the half that Benfica was winning 2-1 at the half in the other game, it rather took the pressure off both teams playing at the San Siro.

Theoretically they could have, so everyone on the Celtic bench was a little bit on edge till the very end, but it didn't happen. I guess in order to pull a ManU you have to be ManU (or Porto, which scored a stoppage time goal against ManU the year they won the Cup).

Bob, I'm impressed. An American living in Japan who knows a lot about real football (soccer), even European. I don't know half as much about football in the Far East.

I bet you know a lot about Sumo wrestling though Rolly?

(they have brought this hallowed, Royal sport to a local pub near where i live...the only difference is that the participants are women, wear no clothes and the going is a bit muddy)

Yes, Sumo wrestling is my specialty. I am happy to learn that you got women involved in the UK. My only wish is that they are bit slimmer than the guys in Japan.

I thought your speciality is the pole vault. Once you said to kibitzers, you achived 1,24 m in pole vault, and that is a great result if we know that the best among the chessplayers jumped world record = only 1,09 m :) :)

Sumo wrestling is sometimes called the "national sport" of Japan (actually baseball is the most popular sport in Japan by far, maybe followed by soccer), but sumo in Japan has been racked by a series of match-rigging scandals of late. Nothing sportsmanlike about the dumping here.
