Please visit a recently edited page that might help you reinforce the idea of COUNTING in bridge.

http://eastontario.c...ions/count2.htm

It's like a game that will help you develop skills in determining deal distributions.

It's FREE!

Your feedback welcome.

Currently it is ONLY INTERNET EXPLORER compatible.
Anyone interested in making it compatible with such as Firefox and Netscape please feel free.

Thanks for the site. It is great. I am starting to get the ability to think in suit patterns.

What doesn't work in firefox? The spacing is a little wierd but I get the correct result when I click on the buttons. It has been a while since I touched html, but maybe I'll take a look.

Maybe I missed it because I only took a quick glance, but is the timer functionality supposed to be enabled?

"ochinko" suggested earlier that it wasn't Firefox compliant.

I haven't tested it in Firefox.
I think there's some Netscape problem too.

It's worked in all the version combinations of IE that I've tried.

There's no timer for this page.

It works fine in firefox if you just remove the silly huge announcement that "This works only in Internet Explorer!" which messes up the spacing. One can decrease font twice (whcih makes it hard to read on my screen) and then spacing is fixed. Of course, when you click to the next problem, you get the same it only works with IE page (then click again) and the next problems shows.

So I would suggest just removing the javascript testing for navigator.

Ben is quite right. I was too lazy and/or gullible. It works not only in Firefox, but Konqueror and Opera too. It doesn't even show the message in Opera. I guess Opera presents itself as IE.

It's safe to get rid of the error message.

Best are the error messages when you make a mistake.

No.. the page has javascript testing specifically for navigator. If the answer to that test is true, then you get the error message. So what Opera presents itself as is not navigator..... :-)

I'm no expert on HTML and browsers
I do have some interest in industrial concentrations and monopolies...

As I recall, there are standard strings that different browsers use to identify themselves to webserver... There is a widely held belief that many web sites and servers discriminate against users who aren't running Internet Explorer.

By default, Opera Browsers lie about their identity and claim to be IE.

I think this is great - counting is my biggest bugaboo for sure, and I am always looking for help. I also would love to see a timer on that page so I can play against myself to work out the distrubutions as quickly as possible. Another thing that would be great is a way to make it about high card points as well - since you see aces, kings and queens counting the missing points and assigning them to hands would be tremendously useful too.

Thanks for a wonderful link.

It's really very nice !

Could be improved by adding a timer and a counter keeping track of the number of hands solved and or the wrong clicks (mistakes in counting)

I think it does help.

When the basic is automatic, then the defender gets the habt of counting shape without even thinking, and he can do the thinking about more complicated stuff (counting tricks, inferences, honor locations).

I think it helps counting if what you practise on is the hand shape insetad of manually counting the number of cards.

Like 433 ---last number must be 3

I think it helps advanced and lesser developed players.
When I use it, it just sends me back too far and I forget the other stuff.
