My hand rates to produce 2 1/2 tricks on defense. Partner at this vul and void could be pretty weakish, KJxx, void, Axxx, K10xxx. What will they lead against 2H doubled?
I think the wise move here is to bid 2S, and take your lumps rather than top/bottom it with pass.

Thanks all. It was a sad day for all the brave who passed (-470 was not an isolated score, though). Dummy tabled J9 of trumps so you could score only Q and a ruff.

Partner had a normal X (4045 12 HCPs).

The bold ones at 3NT would go down but it costs less.

The ones who passed a 3C overcall (not a good bid, though) scored a top.

I was thinking some would bid 3D.

Intermediates matter a lot when deciding to pass a takeout double. I wouldn't hesitate to pass if my trumps were QT953 - with Q6xxx I really don't want to pass, though I might at the table with no good bid. I suppose jillybean has it right with 2♠.
