Robots don't seem to play Raise Only Non-Forcing. I'm not an expert (far from it!), but I believe some folks are limiting RONF now with F2F play Standard American, though my partner and I usually play RONF in all situations. My understanding is that a new suit is forcing at the 1 level in Standard American, though it is becoming more common after weak 2 bid openings. My partner and I play that responder has to have a very good reason for passing opener's bid of a new suit (e.g. 1H-1S-2C) since we've had a number of game hands that we missed, usually when opener has 5 of a major and 15 to 17 points so cannot jump to 2NT or 3 of opening hand or a long minor suit with 11 to 17 points that makes a 3NT game more likely. Also, we rarely play 1NT openings with 5-card major (especially hearts) with 15 to 17 points. We tried playing this opening since it was being encouraged by several experts, but we were burned much more often than helped by such a system.
I don't play 2/1, but my understanding is a 1- and 2-level new suits by responder in F2F games are also forcing in that system.
I'm not sure if such new suit bids by responder are discussed or not in the robot play notes, and it would be helpful if our robot experts could weigh in.
When I get caught in a subpar contract because of a robot pass to a new suit, it is one type of hand that I concede all tricks and go on (even if I would have done OK by playing it). Otherwise, I might start to subconsciously play the robot's style in my F2F play, which I don't want to do. Some folks excel at playing different systems and can play robot's system well even when it differs from their F2F system. I can't, so I concede such hands. Best regards. Mike
