If I hurry, I can finish a tournament in ~ 8 minutes, though my score does go down.

I've been around BBO for well over 20 years (my join date on the forums says it's been over 22 at the very least, but I'm fairly certain it's been a fair bit longer). I completely respect the business decision. This is not a complaint. I am just sharing my sadness at what appears to be the end of an era.

Of course, we cannot demand that there be a free service, but BBO has been around for decades and it did create a community. The owners probably made a bit of money, not a whole lot. Now, the startegy (under different ownership) the desire seems to be to maximize profit. That is their prerogative but I can mourn the passing of a community.

The community has not wholly passed yet - there is residual life and value in this discussion forum and the passionate few who manage to organize meaningful free tournaments.
But that too is already at risk, this poorly thought out chase of further profit without investment could kill the forum and reduce BBO to Funbridge without the graphics.

The price is still competitive at $10 per month,when I consider the educational opportunities. Especially bridge master.
Back in the day I bought the whole series.
So I will pay if it continues to be affordable, and, after all we all enjoyed free things for a long time.
The play per game situation does not work for me because I always got bad hands playing acbl.souch prefer the subscriotion

You don't need to pay for a membership plan to use Bridge Master.

Sorry..this is question as to payment. Is payment using BBO $.....or credit card...or both. I do have some BBO$ and wondering if can be used for this purpose.

If I do NOT remain a Premium member...stay 'basic' which has the 6 hand limit....can I enter paid tournaments, pay using BBO $ and play out the entire tournament of 8-12 hands or even more (not get booted out after 6 hands)?

Yes. Membership plans have no effect on features that you pay extra for. Only some of the free features are impacted.

I have been a BBO+ member for almost 3 years now and I play daily.
This "upgrade" to Premium is actually a downgrade. We get the same or slightly less and we pay MORE for it, not to mention that the quality itself of the service (including the bot AI, at least partly) is nothing to write home about.
As BBO+ member I got the chance to play EVERY SATURDAY a 12 deals tournament that was reserved to us members. IT DISAPPEARED!
The first year at a cheaper price means only that you are going to pay MORE after 2 years subscription, since the fee went up with a whole 25%!
And they had quite recently raised the price of ALL BXP Daylong tournaments by a good margin already.
As another user wrote: "When and where does the greed stop?"
And by the way, I as Premium member, have experienced an unregistered result for a tournament, a delay in delivering the results in a few cases, the missing Free Daylong Tournament TODAY (the 21st of September) and I guess this lastest issue does not affect just me.

It seems that in the free 'Basic' option there's a trap laid, as I drew attention to in a previous post. You don't necessarily get your full six-a-day unless you know the workaround.
It also seems that most people still playing social bridge on BBO have opted for Premium.
Looks like I'll be following suit.
I admit that US$5.99 (about £4.50) per month isn't going to break the bank. When I played f2f bridge at a local club, before the pandemic and for a few months after, I was paying £3.00 (about US$4.00) table money per weekly session. Of course there were added benefits like tea/coffee/biscuits (and sometimes cake) thrown in! And your results went towards your EBU grading...
What I'm wondering is, how many have opted for the "Basic No Ads" option - which seems singularly useless? Why should anyone fork out $3.99 just so as not to see fairly unobtrusive adverts?
I think BBO should be offering just two levels: Basic and Premium. If they did that perhaps they could lower the cost of Premium a bit?
