We would start 1♦-1♥-1♠-X showing 4 clubs if we didn't jump to 4♥ immediately, I suspect we would rapidly be in 5♣

Nope, we just play in all 3 suits bid auctions, X shows 4, bidding the suit shows 5, we do not play support doubles

Is 2x non forcing?

This is similar to 1m (1M) X method that denies 4M (Justin Lall) I think it is very descriptive but only one partner will play that, so far.

I do play that on (1♦)-1♥-(1♠)-?, a bid of 2♣ is not forcing. Meanwhile, X for me shows real clubs as well as hearts tolerance - normally exactly Hx in hearts, but I did not play that convention with all partners.
