Reacting to partners opening partner jumps on my suit

If partner had bid 2♥, so 1♣-1♠; 2♥, this is known as a 'reverse'. It is a very strong bid, and many beginners struggle to understand it. Check out this excellent explanation of them if you're curious.

Thank you for the response, much appreciated.
I will check that out but I understand now why H was the better response giving my partner more options.
The more I play the game and try to understand the more I realise what little I actually know and how complicated it is.
