Change to ads in mobile app

I’m noticing some unpleasant changes to ads in the mobile app on iOS. Maybe the are also happening on desktop browsers but I primarily use mobile.

1. When there are ads at the top, they seem to sometimes takeover the whole screen while I’m doing something in a hand and I have to swipe to make them go away. I’m not sure if this is because I touched near (but not on) the ad or because the ad just gets to do that now. It’s frustrating and intrusive and makes me lose focus.

2. Ads are no longer gone for the whole week if you pay for a tournament. Is it one day now? Or not at all?

3. I now see a banner ad to subscribe to ad-free for $0.99/week. That’s cheaper than BBO+ but not by much.

4. Historically I have not seen the “install this ad” popover ads on BBO but now I do.

5. Having no way to subscribe to either from my account page in the mobile app is counter-intuitive. That’s where I expect to be able to subscribe to either option because almost every other website I’ve ever used does it that way. Now that there are two subscription options it really needs to move there.

Overall ads have gotten a lot more aggressive. I guess it’s a revenue thing but I’m not super thrilled with it.

Were these changes announced somewhere?

It would be nice if BBO+ had some additional new features given this new “no ad” tier.

I have the same questions.

Could BBO at least get rid of the horrible movie style ads that take over the iPad after leaving a table? I’ve never seen anything obtrusive

Hi all, the policy related to how players see ads was recently updated, and ads resume 24 hours after the last BB$ purchase or spend if there’s no further activity. As soon as you enter a paid game or make a BB$ purchase, ads will be hidden again for the next 24 hours. Adjustments like this help BBO keeps a balance between offering free play and continuing to support and improve the experience for everyone.

I understand why you're making the adjustments. But at the same time, I'm frustrated by the way in which they were made without any announcement or warning.

The same thing happened when you lowered all the payouts to the reward games, and when you raised the prices on the Zenith reward (and later other games).

Thanks for letting us know. Could someone look into preventing an ad from taking over the screen in the middle of play? I’ve had it happen three times. I can understand and begrudgingly accept that I’ll get a full screen ad after a tournament ends but it should not happen while I’m in play. It seems like some of the small banner ads just take over the screen and you have to swipe them away. Some ads are those aggressive “install this app now” screen takeovers too.

I assume you have a way to prevent those… hopefully …
