Hi,
my Birthday started with finishing in a MP daylong with 75%, which is rare for me (this is putting
it very euphemistic, ... I am usually content getting above 50& due to screwing up 1 or 2 boards),
but the Bridge gods though, we make him a present, was this all they had in store for me?
I played a BBO tournament, 15 boards with a competent p, nothing out of the ordinary, but ok.
You pick up the 6th board, being 2nd pos. green vs. red, they stay silent, and again your
"favourite format" MP:
♠KQ7
♥AQ4
♦A84
♣A742
(Pass) - 1♣ (1) - (Pass) - 1♠
(Pass) - 2NT - (Pass) - 6♥
(Pass) - ???
Your bid?
With kind regards
Marlowe

Firstly had you both had a few before you started playing?
It was a BBO tournament, ... work break.
Anyway, 30 years ago, when I started to learn to to play Bridge I learned, that the 1st half pint stout
helped in improving my game, the 2nd kept the level steady, but the 3rd killed it.
I dont think then and also not nowadays at most 2 would not count as few, ..., and we are speaking only
about half pints.
My reg. p is also someone who only drinks water, ... the good thing is, we know who drives the car.
With kind regards

Hi,
7NT is a sensible bid. maybe better than the bid I choose, 7S.
7NT has one minus, I would have to play the hand, and who wants to work on his own birthday.
Also a trump suit may come in handy, if the hearts dont run.
As it is p was 6/5 in the majors, but had "only" K9xxx in hearts, besides AJxxxx in spades and QJ in clubs.
Spade did not break 2-2, they happened to be 3-1, hearts also did not break and happened to 4-1.
Felling the single Ten, p was able to finesse the Jack, this was afterall a 2nd present from the Bridge gods.
7S was not the sole top, we had 1 pair as sharing the top with us.
It is not a particular strong field, you find a pretty diverse cast, among them international players, but also
lots of normal club players.
In the end we ended up 3rd, we had 66.9%, in the last round we played the ev. winners and managed basically a 50-50,
but someone was able to overtake us, with 67%, the winners had 67.1%.
Obviously the gods that they needed something to spare in case, they wanted to hand out another birthday round.
