Thanks. I will eventually read one of those.

Can you also recommend a good book from which to learn 2/1? I have never actually played it a live game.

I recommend learning 2/1 from Larry Cohen's website. In particular his series on 2/1 and both of his series on standard bidding, here and here, are helpful.

Cohen has some good spiral-bound books as well. And there's one by Eric Rodwell and Audrey Grant that's pretty good.

Ah yes. I forget that bridge is an international game, and countries vary greatly in their methods! I should have said: I am in the USA, specifically in Kentucky.

I saw this and can speak from experience having returned to game after 20 or more years. When I left, I knew Max Hardy's 2/1 system. That book long ago fell apart from overuse.
I was just looking at Larry Cohen's website and will go back. I remember him from Florida, where I lived when I played.

It has been helpful to play hands on BBO with robots to refresh my game. There you can see what the bids mean. I have been playing the few games with SAYC for a long time and now progressing to 2/1. It strikes me that the basics are fine with an infinite number of gadgets. You would have to figure those out with a regular partner.

If anyone can tell me how to find a real partner on here, I would be grateful.
