Just saw the results and scoring for round 1 and I must admit to being extremely surprised that wins and losses were not the number one criterion with all else being tie breakers wow good luck all
Gszes makes a valid point. Take an extreme case...
- 6 play a round-robin of matches, scored on a 0-20 VP scale.
- A wins all its matches 11-9. So A's score = 5 x 11 = 55 VP.
- B loses its other matches 0-20. So B's score = 9 VP
- C, D E, F draw their matches against each other 10-10. So each score 9 + 20 + 27 = 58.
- i.e A beats everybody but finishes 2nd bottom
Similarly, at imps, one lucky swing-board can dominate all other boards to determine a match-result, so point-a-board seems a superior test of skill.

I don't see why it should be wins that matters at least in the first stage. I have no doubt that the fairest way to determine who has been playing the best bridge is who has finished top.

Yes, he beat everyone, but they were all really close matches, not very decisive. Everyone else crushed B, so he's presumably a really bad player, yet A still just barely beat him.
According to win-loss scoring, there's no difference between a crushing victory and a match where you make one extra overtrick on one board and push all the rest.

Next week, I will be really busy so probably I won't be able to play a challenge. So far, I've played 2 of my 5 challenges and there is enough room left before the end of September to complete my other 3 challenges.
