4♥ x pass ?
- 4N = UNT, Agree with Phil. Reasonable but brave.
- Pass = PEN. Partner should have primary ♠ support. We have the minors. Even so, 4♥X might be bad for us,
- 5♣ = NAT. Unilateral
- 4♠ = NAT. Danger of losing trump control

yuck I hate this; but that's why they preempt, especially at favourable! I think 4NT at IMPs - way too much upside, and I bet the downside will be shared - and pass at MPs - let's hope "any plus is a good score". But I think it would strongly depend on:
- Namyats or not?
- How often do they preempt on 6 (and 4♥ on crappy 7), or is this player the solid type?
- whether partner and I can defend tonight

I can't understand passing at any form of scoring. I think it is losing bridge to play this dble as penalty.

I agree with 4n. I'm thinking minor suit slam on this. 2 aces and 2nd round control of hearts, this is a great hand. Of course, this doesn't work if you play with an undisciplined partner. In that case, you are stuck guessing.

I see I allowed myself a couple of years to think. 4NT looks fairly obvious now, not sure if that is a positive sign or not
