Your partnership agreements are to open sound, but you also know your pd won't divorce you if you happen to judge it's a good idea to break this agreement and open light occasionally.

Opps are playing some form of strong club with weak NT. At the other table both pairs are playing 2/1.

You are dealer, 1st seat white vd red. Would you open? If so, what would you open?

I would open 1 club

This is similar to the 3 hand from earlier, where first seat not vul, I could not open 3 with the hand because it was too strong for my standards in that seat at that vulnerability. So my two choices are pass and 1. I have to admit that I would open 1 and I would plan to raise 1 or 1 by partner to the two level. If partner makes a negative double of something, I am rebidding clubs. Also if partner bids 1 I am rebidding 2. If my RHO bids, I am passing unless support double is available.

I prefer a style where I can open 1 (or even better 2 playing a strong ) with this hand, however, since that isn't the style I'm playing in this partnership I pass.

What's your style for a 3 opener? Is partner going to divorce you? I play 3 by an unpassed hand as "welcoming 3NT"; this is borderline, but white on red, against better opponents, I might just pull it off.

What I don't want to hear is p-1NT-p-p to me, especially if I can't bid clubs naturally.
