You have too much for a 4H opening in your methods, so start with 1H at love all at pairs.

Bidding proceeds (3D) P (5D) to you.

Bid 5H? Pass? Double?

1H was limited to 15 HCP in your methods

Double sounds too much like penalties in most of my partnerships. With this hand I want it to be 80% takeout at least, and even if it is takeout it sounds more like 6-5 majors than 7-4. I bid 5.

When I hold this hand, the 5 level belongs to me. I bid 5.

5 and it's not close to anything else. Doubling is probably worst, partner will take it out when he has diamond length and values in that suit, and pass when he doesn't, which is not exactly what we want...

Given the OP system, would noone consider opening 1 instead of 1?

It wouldn't be legal in EBU land (by agreement) to open this 1C. Extended rule of 25 applies.

Partner would bid 3S showing clubs and 6+ HCP if you did.

The 5 level belongs to THEM! I see so many bad 5 over 5's bid in games I play in or kib when neither contract had a chance to make.

However, here with this much distribution this is a very clear 5 bid. I'd not be surprised to see both contracts making.

When you cannot open a 9PT, 4 loser hand of above average HCP with 1 then something is very wrong.

I think with a very strong 8-card suit you have to go 5. I agree with some of the other players who say that the double sounds too much like penalty. Your partner knows you are not crazy when you bid 5- you have something:)

Thanks all. Partner had a 2227 count with AKJxxxx of clubs and out. 5D and 5H are both off.

Just wondering if I was insane for bidding 5H here.
