South did very well....final pass by North wasn't thinking.

Seconded.
We have a meta agreement that where 3N is bid to play other than via a lebensohl sequence that denies a stop, removal to 4m without it being doubled is forcing. N's hand is huge, replace S's KQ with A10 and you're making a slam, bid at least 5♦ (I'd probably try 5♣ on the way).

I am not sure I like any of North's calls. 2D is the best of the 3 although it will be too strong for many. 3NT on Qxx with the opps representing a 9 card fit is hopeful. Passing a 4m take-out of 3NT opposite an unlimited partner is almost criminal. I am not sure this is a serious ATB topic so much as a "look how bad my partner was" thread.

I think there's plenty of blame to go round.
Personally I don't play 2S as forcing, and I don't think it's normal to play it as forcing (there was a thread on this earlier with very mixed opinions). I don't want 2S to end the auction, and I want partner to know of my diamond fit at once, so I think 3S fit is a better call. If I'm not playing fit bids, I'd cue hearts.

North's 3NT seems a bit speculative given the opponenets bid and raise of ♥.
South might have bid 3♠ at his first turn to show a fit (my pref).
However, on the auction I see no justification for South's 4♦ bid. Therefore, the final contract should have been 3NT.
ATB for not reaching 5♦, pretty much all North.

2D was fine. A certain prominent Vugraph commentator ---known for his use of overstrength 2/1 minor-suit overcalls in addition to his understrength preempts, would have approved.

assuming we cant use a 3s fit showing bid --------- then 3n is a terrible call
followed by another horrid call 4d which shows a complete lack of trust of
partners ability to bid. what is is n supposed to do with say
x AQ KQJTxx ATx they bid 2d and after 2h 2s 3h they rightfully bid 3n only to
hear acckk 4d?????. ANYWAY--
over 3h the best shot is probably a cards showing X that expresses doubt about
nt or spades and shows extra values. NOW responder can easily bid 3s to show
a 6 bagger and NOW n could bid 3n (with their speculative stopper) and S
knowing N doesnt have a load of heart values "runs" to 4d (with spade A vs KQ
I would "run" to 5d) and N should realize s hates nt due to shortness and have
little trouble with bidding 5d.
Note how the X allows for a ton of useful information to get exchanged which
(as usual) helps lead the partnership to a superior contract).
Anyone playing x over 3h as penalty are probably still waiting for the
x AQJ Axxxxx Axx to show up and even then hoping the heart K is with rho.
