This might be turning into a non BIL topic, but I disagree, xyz is much better IMO, first because you can stop at the 2 level after:

1♦-1♥-1NT-2♣-2♦-2♥

while

1♦-1♥-1NT-2♣-2♥-3♥ is too high


Also better than some range askng checkbacks, because opener will evaluate better the limit hands when he knows the strain partner is thinking to play in.
