From my point of view the hand is perfect for NT. All my tricks are fast and my hand could easily take 8 tricks all on its own. Partner just has to have a stopper.

The end of the story:
My judgement was like VM1973, so I stayed in. Pard had JT Jxx T7xx AKxx. ♦-lead, but luckily ♦ split 4-4.

What would be 3♠ ove 3♥ from your partner?

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

Partner had an obvious 3♠ bid. 3♠ doesn't commit you to playing in spades, but it does suggest uncertainty. That's a pretty good description of his hand.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn
