I would pass. Partner is likely to be broke here and the King of H is of very dubious value.

Bidding here would be a huge case of matchpointitis! It could work but it's pretty terrible imo.

Double is not a bid, Nuno. It is a call. You are right when you describe it as terrible, by the way.

Are you saying this because it is in ? Certainly positionally it is well placed or is there something about the diagram I am missing. IMV it looks to be behind the opening caller and 5+ cards in the suit.

Pass is the "book"-bid. So I'll make it whenever I am in a "book"-situation. That would require:

- Playing in a relatively stong, relatively homogenous field.
- Playing with a partner, I know would have prebalanced over 2 on a lot of hands. (Like Q10xx/xxx/Qxx/xxx)
- Playing competent opponents, who will catch me appr. as often as any other strong pair, and who are not known to over-compete.

Being all white, the situation cries for competition beyond 2, and I would back in with a double at the slightest excuse.

After all, I don't hold:

J32
K9
J982
AQ92

a hand I would also make an initial TO-double with.

Changing just their vulnerabilety to red, I would be much more hesitant, as the occasional +200 will yield a fine score, and even +100 will beat the +90 I can easily imagine being out there on some boards.

I don't see why the heart king is a dubious value either, it is useful on offense as well as defense. It seems like a clear pass though.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

MrAce asks
MP, would u pass or make another move ?

At MP, it's a close decision
Double = 10, Pass = 9
The downside of double is that opponents may be trapping
or partner may think you've got a stronger hand.
The upside is that partner may have a five card minor. For example
eg xx xxx Qxx Kxxxx

If partner had xx xxx Qxx Kxxxx, wouldn't he have bid 3 already? He is also non-vulnerable and playing matchpoints.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

Surely this is not a "I got a trick better than my last T/O dbl"
which a repeated double should be.
Do we have a 3m contract that is close?
To push them to 3H, but not discovering well-placed stuff for 4H?
Or even a 4-4 2S on nothing plus my 14?
Naw! Too small targets.

I Pass. Dbling again should show perfect shape and/or no wastage in hearts. Sometimes one just has to let them play in their known 8-card fit on the two level, even MPs.

I would. But many wouldn't, so I'm not sure you can make that inference.

I doubled, passing wins.

In fact pd had 5-5 minors, stiff , xx with good 0 hcp ! I pushed them to 4 which was cold. LHO's 2 was loaded, 5 332 10 hcp !
