1NT is natural, double for penalties. 2♦by partner instead of double would be natural, non forcing, 3♦as well. This auction now is not discussed. Is this sequence forcing? and if not, do you bid?

The W/R opponents overcalled 1N, partner has spade shortness and reasonable diamonds which rate to be a source of tricks. I have a double spade stopper, 3 card support and some positional values, I'm definitely bidding 3N. I think most hands are "close" to pass here, but this just has too many reasons to bid.

Adam, what kind of hand do you give the 1NT bidder here?

Well there are two possibilities:

1. LHO psyched 1N and has long spades with a weak(ish) hand, not too likely and the auction would probably be slightly different then.
2. LHO has a normal 1N with 5♠... Perhaps something like AJTxx AJx Kx Qxx or AJTxx Kxx KQ Qxx, they could be a bit stronger, but I think the double spade stopper should be enough assuming they don't have controls everywhere... Even then, you'll be able to put them under a lot of pressure on the run of the diamond suit.

3D is still NF, he is not broke, but that does not make 3D forcing.

I guess 3NT is the percentage call, we will have 6D, 1S, 1C - the 9th
trick may or may not appear.

I may pass on the table, if I dont think long enough.

3N, I like to be very aggressive in these situations where LHO is leading/defending in the dark and we know a lot about the hand. It's true we had garbage when we opened, but it has improved a lot, specifically Jxx of diamonds.

next questions: how do you bid forcing hands with diamonds if not with a penalty double and a new suit?
don't you think that you could see you singleton spade and the vulnerability BEFORE you doubled?

at the table 1NT was a psyche, and I bid this way beeing 100% sure this must be forcing.
My main argument was that this bidding should be kind of treated as a 1 or 2 spades overall and not like 1NT.
I have 2D and 3D directly to show differend hands with diamonds and when I start wth double and have only 1 spade, I must be prepared that one of my opps will bid 2 spades in the next round of bidding. So why not showing the key aspects of my hand first (the dia suit) instead of doubling for potential non vulnerable undertricks.
Doubling pays off if we set their contract 2 or 4+ down. if they for down one in some contract we will likely have a dia partscore, if they make say 1nt for 4 tricks We are favorites to make 9 in 3NT ourselves...

I still see no upwart to double and then run to 3Dia in this position with a hand that could have bid 2 / 3 Dia directly. What kind of hands do you expect for my bidding?

I wasof course sure 1NT was psyched and I dreamed of slam vs. the correct weak nt with partner. my plan was to pass if he bids 3nt now and to look for a better contract, if he does not.
If 3Sp is my only forcing bid now, partner will have to bid 3nt even with hands, where his stopper is axx
axx xx qxxx aqxx = 12 points and we have great chances to make 7 clubs

I made 3dia with an overtrick or so now

I think 3D has to be forcing otherwise you are completely stuck on a good hand.

you could bid 3♠, obviously methods and agreements help, for example I would play pass of 2♠ as forcing, and 3♦ directly stronger than a pull after.
