Scenario--- all vuln-dealer South-you are East.
Bidding proceeds P--P--P You hold A32--A--A63--A109642.
When i picked this hand up,i relaxed np if pard opens any,
but quickly also thought,if opps open/or partner passes,i
think there will be problems,my 4 ACES empty????????
when lo and behold it happened 3 passes to me.Hence the poll.
you are a sub in a tourney-partner happens to be an expert, you
have playd 3 hands with him all defensive part scores, and done well.
and now this hand came up...........Hence constructive-destructive?
one of the most exciting hands i have experienced in many years.
your decision sets the PACE--when the poll comes in,i will reveal all.
to further assist, your decision as to your opening bid,
consider what partner may have or have not,
your pard ply SAYC.nothing special

Not sure what you are asking here, but if it is "what would I open?", well I don't know of anyone who would not open 1C.

Somehow I think this is a water cooler thread... I don't see any references to bridge in the OP

EDIT: To pirate22, yes yes I know I need glasses and all that. In 6 years when I'm old enough to drink, I'll buy myself a pair of shot glasses.

There are all sorts of ways to try for a unanimous poll but it never succeeds. Unless you only give 1 option to vote, like our dear friend pirate22 who still hasn't figured out how to use hand diagrams to make his posts more readable...

I bid 1 .Partner can have maximum 12 hcp minimum 0 if both opponents are ultra conservative bidders or have miscounted.Since I am told P is an expert I discount the possibility that HE might have miscounted.

If I read this correctly you want to know if I am bidding constructively or destructively? LOL I have 4 highly probable sure tricks which instantly makes the opponent's chances of finding a game highly unlikely. While my chances are very high so why would I want to make life difficult for my side by any destructive call

Pooltuna, are you saying that just because we have a shapely hand with 16 excellent HCP and the opponents have both passed, this rates to be our hand?

The patch and wooden leg comes off---- 4 aces empty...me thinks its a waste of time to open 1cl
i felt the opps were going to come in with any, even if diams/hts/spades,
so i decided to open 3cl,and bidding proceeded
Pas Pas Pas
3 cl--4cl--pass--4d !!
x --4hts-- x-- pass
pass--pass --pass..... !{i x 4d with 4 aces}
it went 5off=1600 to our way.

Souths hand K10964--J8763--Q5--Q
Norths 7 --K10 --J109872--J853. West QJ85--Q9542--K4--K9.

East hand....A32-----A-----A63-----A107642.

King cl lead all now revealed when stiff Q appeared.

You could have told us your opps don't know how to play bridge. Seriously, 4 with that opposite a PH is suicide. A lot of people (possibly ill-advised) would also open partner's hand. Besides, you can't get 1600 from a doubled (not XX) contract.

And yes, I would never dream of opening 3C, no texture and pre-empts partner a lot more than it pre-empts the opps.
