Hey! You guys are 5th in the WWBC.

I've always wondered why isn't this tournament more popular... Cost maybe?

FIRST IN USA... lol

I was tilted because I messed up one hand at the end but we were really far out of 2nd and even farther out of first so it didn't matter.

There is another one today, goin for the 75 obv :(

edit: I will say it's pretty fun to play a session where you're shooting for 75. My general MP style is very much to go for Ave+ when playing with good players, so it's fun to just go all out.

It was also the first 70% game I've ever had.

Well, you guys beat me both sessions (both of mine at 59 or 60.)

Anything in particular you did differently from normal / places you disagree strongly with the advice in the booklet that you'd like to share?

On the posted overcall hand:

You think a 3343 hand with Axx in their suit is worth more than the 19 you have? I didn't even have good spots...

I could easily be convinced my bid was an underbid, but that I should think this hand is worth more than face value is a bit much to me. Sometimes partner has only one entry and all the honors in our 5-3 fit are offside!

I bid 2NT over 2 (Multi) with that one.

I don't like 1NT because I will sometimes wrongside NT with it, it looks like a normal 19 count to me, Axx in their suit is a + for double, not a -. We are comparing this hand with other balanced 19 counts with spade stops, not other 19 counts. Surely this hand makes game more likely than KJx Kxx AQxx AQx or KTx KJx AQxx AQxx, this is because we have good support for hearts. The fact that you are apparently thinking of superaccepting with a 4333 hand shows why 1NT was maybe not a good choice. Well I guess it's not the only hand we should be talking about, of course sometimes 2NT will be too high and other cases.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

I wouldn't bid 1NT with that hand, too much positional strength for those AQ tenaces after the opening bid. Even the A and K rate to be worth their full potential after the opening bid.

I got 2S on my right and then was faced with the same bid one level higher from partner. Still not sure how I should have handled this one....

I love 1NT and I'd bid 3 not 2NT, I wanna be able to reach partner's hand as much as possible.

Well done! IMO at LA MPs with Axx K9x AQxx AQx.
  • (_P) _P (1) ?? IMO _X = 10, 1N = 6.
  • (_P) _P (1) _X (_P) 2 (_P) ?? 2 = 10, 2N = 9, _P = 5.
