Scoring: Rubber

Your goal is to construct the North/South hands so that the ONLY card you can lead that will defeat 6 is the Q.

Are you looking for realistic hands where you can actually reason that the Q is best, or just a double dummy solution? The latter seems quite simple, but here's one:

I suppose that if the auction was some long revealing relay affair you might decide that the Q was right.

Yes, that works (though on a CLUB lead South has to be VERY careful.)

Actually, there are a few other solutions, but the most famous one is from several sources - and involved having Spades bid and supported by partner - a tougher bit of construction. The solution to THAT puzzle is below:

Good job!

Alternative Solution"

The original post wasn't changed, dear.

Perhaps you should invest in a pair of glasses?

Or better yet - actually supplied a solution.

I updated my post to include the solution based on the original source for the puzzle. Rather than post it as a separate thread.

Why does anyone misplay a hand?

If there were not people around who would try to cash the K and then try for the ruff and then the hart pitch, then none of us would ever get a top board through carelessness. :(

Please forgive my tardiness. I'm on vacation and haven't checked around here lately.

However, ask and ye shall receive.

Why does the Q defeat the contract? Can't you just ruff one club, draw trumps (with no losers) and squeeze East in everything? What am I missing?

I suspect the original book from where he picked this example had a problem that read "...defeat 7...", not 6

This is getting hillarious ...
