In the interest of equity and fairness, whenever the opps bid 7NT, we should be allowed to bid at the 8 level. :)

The purpose of a sacrifice is to go down less than the value of the opp's contract, is it not? :)

Historical rumors say, only Stalin was allowed to bid 8c save in this case. Its pretty sure that Berja and Molotov did not dare to double it :)

This thread is a great idea.

With that said, Santa got me a wok for Christmas. I know a lot of you are baller cooks with some baller recipes (paging Hrothgar). Aside from the obvious idea of throwing a bunch of meat and veggies into hot oil and stirfrying with sauce and such, does anyone have any recommendations of ideas or recipes or pro tips or anything I might find useful?

I've never used a wok, and my parents never used woks, so I'm more or less going by instinct.

In fact, I may start another "what should i do for dinner this weekend" thread, with the wok as the central focus of my plans.

Please respond.

woks are great gifts! You can use it to keep the rain off your head if you lack an umbrella....just put it on the right way, else it either falls off or gets too heavey due to an accumulation of water.

Also, take it off in a hailstorm...the noise will deafen you otherwise.

It was not that great a gift given i had to pack it up and take it on a plane with me. Security had to look through my bag B)

I explained to them that it was a very cool hat and not a device i intended to blow up planes with.

Make sure to "season" the wok before you use it.

There are explanatory videos on youtube. It involves creating an oxidized layer on the inner surface. Lends flavor and color to your cooking as well as lowering the sticky factor.

This only applies to iron and mild steel woks and not the teflon or non-stick variety.

I did.

I made beef and brocolli with shrimp fried rice a couple days after I got the wok (amazingly good; amazingly simple). I made the metal hot, oiled it, let it cool down, heated it up again, oiled it, let it cool down again.

And after I washed it, I re-oiled so that it wouldn't rust.

I didn't see your argument that wok cooking produces superior-tasting food. Please point it out to me if I am wrong.

Higher temperature = good sear, imo. Locks in flavors.
