The thing is that partner might be leqading a spade and I would prefer a heart but other than that I'll just pass and collect (I hope).

I would have bid 3♥ or DBL in the previous round (invite for 4♠). 3♠ is only competitive imo and I think that I have an invite.
Because of the double fit, I would still bid 4♠ now.

Easy pass, we bid perfectly until now, let's keep up the good work. Partner made a penalty double and I have two outside aces, this should be juicy.

The time to think was on our last turn when we could have bid 3♥ as a generic game try. (Some also play double as game try but I only play game try (maximal) doubles when there's no in between suit to use).

However we choose, and not that unreasonably esp. if 2♠ could be 3 cards, to just bid a competitive 3♠. If 2♠ was 4 cards for sure, I really think I'd have invited game. Also by inviting game, I really have the easiest pass ever when PD X's.

PD has heard our comp. raise to 3♠ and expects that it is based on 5♠. He doesn't expect us to have 2 aces to produce two sure tricks on defence and yet he's made a penalty double.

Who are we to trust? Vulnerable opps, who if sane could expect decent play for 4♦ or PD?

Well..I trust PD who shouldn't be doubling them into game at IMPs if he just thinks we might set it.

Clear pass to me..maybe we are getting 500, but +200 vs getting set in 4♠ will be nice.

The raise to 2S is likely 4 card support, although we are unsure. As another poster mentions 3S is strictly competitive (what other way can you reach 3S?) an action thats a wee bit timid, I like 4S better than 3. All that aside, I have no idea what partner thinks the dble of 3D is but I am passing and hope for a C lead.

I hope p is sane, doubling a partscore for penalties at IMPs when we haven't made a game try ourselves, and p can have no more than three diamonds.

Fortunately my hand is defense oriented so pass is easy.

The mild complaints about only bidding 3S before, instead of 3H game try are interesting. Partner heard the 3S bid which did not invite game and could have been merely LAW crud, and he still chose a double of 4D. I am delighted to have two real defensive tricks when I showed none before. Makes pass easier here than if I had shown values before, since the values I have are great for offense, too.
