Partner opens 2 Multi in 2nd Seat Red vs. White at MPs and you hold:

AQJxx
x
KQJ9xx

Tough one.

If partner has 2 spades I'd love to play 2 but we can't really do that unless I pass and then bid spades when the opps balance. How sound are partner's preempts at this vul?

Argh! I really don't want to defend 3 here but it looks like it's going that way. If I pass now maybe partner can bid with good support. Also, passing only gives them 1 chance to balance, rather than 2.

Yes, pass is obvious.

Pass is indeed pretty obvious.

Pass , and be happy you are playing Multi - if partner had opened 2 , you could not reach 2 ...

Well, pass is obvious if 2 can't be a strong balanced hand. Of course it's not very likely that pard has 19-21 but I think I'd 2 then.

I think it depends on your goals for the match and how well you think you're doing so far.
Pass will definitely lead to an abnormal result - which might be what you want if you badly need a top.
It's definitely a bit of a view though.

I expect my partner's preempts to be sound in 2nd position at red, so I think the 'normal' action is 2H. This wrong-sides the contract of course, so you may be beating the field just from doing this.

Of course partner could always have a strong hand...

I'd bid 2. But then again, I don't play multi.

agree with pass; our suit is likely to be better than partner's suit

Yes, pass is obvious.

But the balanced 23 won't be funny :P
