Scoring: IMP

1-(2)-2      -(3)
P-  (P)  -3      -(P)
3-(P)  -4      -(DBL)
P-  (P)  -REDBL-(P)
4-(P)  -4NT     -(P)
5-(P)  -5      -All Pass

2=forcing
3=I took that partner would take is as forcing, because uncontested we play all new suit as forcing (would 3 be forcing in a SA?)
3=2 always promisses a 5 card in SA? Anyway, We play support DBL so partner denied a 3 card .
4=1st or 2nd control
Pass over DBL denied control; REDBL showed 1st control
5=41 of 5
5: We miss one A and partner denied a control (1st or 2nd).
We don't play LTTC. I think we can only reach 6 if North bids 4 iso 4. Do you give Q as control in partners 2nd suit (It would have been useful here - also because Q is supported by the J - but is it generally better to do it)?

In the given bidding: Can North bid 6 after South stopped in 5?

Thanks for reading this!

4NT is the worst bid of the auction, bidding blackwood with a void is very poor bridge, it acomplishes nothing.

North is worth more than a 4 bid also.

When bidding 4NT south already knows:
- North has no A or K (he denied control)
- North has no A or K (he denied control)
Then why is 4NT that bad and what is the better bid?

oh sorry missed that thing.

North is worth more than 4 still.

Also North should never bid on after partner sings off on a blackwood sequence.

4NT is a bad bid because it doesn't tell South what he wants to know. The thing that makes the slam good is North's holdings in diamonds and spades. Over 4, South should make another consultative bid.

I'd bid 5, denying spade control but showing A. After that, North should insist on slam, perhaps cue-bidding 5 on the way.

Alternatively, South could bid 5, and North should bid 5, showing Q (because he's already denied the ace or king), and spade control (because South has denied it). South can probably bid slam over that.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

1. 3 is surely forcing anywhere

2. This hand is not so easy, ahds with voids and opps bidding never are, so missing the slam is no major crime.

3. Never bid on after partner stopped after blackwood- at least not when you have the lower number of key cards.

4 to the bidding: Fine up to the redouble. maybe south should bid 4 Spade here, but I am not sure whether the overall strength is enough to make this bid.

After his choice 4 Heart: When you bid BW, you will get to know about the King of Heart and the ace of spade. When one is missing, you have a problem. Does partner have enough stuff to make slam good?
Given the absence of high honours in the minors, what is the worst hand he may have? Aqxxx,xx, Jxx,QJx? This is no opening bid. So he must have solid spades or the queen of diamonds. in both cases the slam is good.
So I think that 4 NT was a good bid, because you may find out that he holds AKQxx,Kx,xxx,xxx and 7 HEart is cold.
After 5 club, south must bid 6 HEart.

Of course all this is just true, when partner does not open 10 HCP hands with 5 spades. In this case, there are many hands where slam has no play.
Kind Regards

Roland
