Hi Mirjam_3

Well aren't we lucky who have discovered BBO :) I agree on all points with you, in fact I think the BBO software is almost perfect, and when we think that they provide it to us for free, then my rating is :P :P :D :D :D > :D out of 3 :D

Have a nice day all

The people. By this I mean Fred and Uday of course, but also the many players and volunteers that keep the site alive. I also very much like the "educational" aspects of BBO as it relates to improving one's bridge. The partnership bidding rooms, the teaching tables, the vugraphs with commentators, the ability to kibitz really great players, the online library, THE BRIDGE MASTER hands, this forum for sharing ideas and learning new things about bridge, etc. This is an education-friendly bridge environment.

I concur. I can honestly say that my bridge has improved so I I'm at least 10 times better than I was before I discovered BBO. Also, I've made several new friends, that I wouldn't have known otherwise.

I like the fact that I no longer have to bath or even put on clothes to play bridge.

back in the weird old days, folks used to have to dress up for games. Smoking jackets, ties, and the like were d' rigour. Lucky, the game changed with the times, and by the 80s it was acceptable to wear sweats and jeans.

However, online bridge has lower standards even further. Soap has become a thing of the past. As the weather improves, I can start dispensing with clothing althogether! BWAHHH HAH HAH...

The BIL lounge, FREE lessons run by expert players,
The ability to kibitz expert, word class players, vugraph,
The Bermuda Bowl final ;) (more exciting than watching the Cannucks)
Helpful people who will share their experience.
Bridge master hands
The endless information available via the forum and the people
who take the time to share that knowledge
Tournament directors who allow kibitzing
Open tournaments
Being able to hook up with experts for private, paid lessons.

and the volunteers who keep it all going - thanks :D

...and not having to sit next to hrothgar at a bridge table

B) You are all so funny!!!!

Having come from a very nice Bridge site that was not supported technically, I am impressed daily with the technical expertise, the plans to move forward and the amazing pace of improvements on BBO. I've played on BBO less than a year and I've already lost count of all the wonderful improvements/enhancements. AND, the techno-giants are REALLY GOOD - not just hackers!

Second is the mix of people - folk from everywhere and of every skill. An incredible opportunity for someone like me to learn more about the game.

Best of all though, I appreciate the fact that someone is in charge and that the inmates do not run the asylum!

And just in case anyone is worried - I do still bathe and wear clothes :-)

Frosty

PS..... I like that I'm not a Novice poster any more B)

hi,

a highlight of BBO is that - in spite of all the new versions - it runs very stable, the server needs a reboot very seldom, and no client crashes. And there are only very few new bugs introduced with new version, so I always can download the newest beta faithfully.

Thanks Fred and Uday.

If i had to write all the reasons why i like BBO, this would be a very long post, and my posts are usually very short :)
I'll try to summarize my feelings:
Good bridge
Nice Tourneys
Good friends
Great food
Vugraph
Lessons
Options
(all the stuff mentioned by other posters)
Variety of refreshments
Brilliant kibbing
Super TD's
Greatest P :)

Only one thing i don't particularly like:
All those clubs I can't belong to B)
You know its time to diet, when you nod one chin and 2 others second the motion :)

Great Fred's idea and Uday's work allow many players form poor countries, like bulgaria, to meet friends from all world, else impossible for them. Sharing ideas, thanks to BBO, will help to improve level of Bridge for anybody. Watching high level of play in vugraph allow to compare own level with best players in the world and find way to develop it.

Must be true in Canada and Costa Rica as well (where I've lived)!

Well actually, I do own a shaver. I just don't use it :)

I like the bridge focus best. This is not a chat site, its for learning/improving/having fun with bridge!

Also admire a lot how Fred/Uday are committed and dedicated to giving power to the people. Everything is made as easy to understand/use as possible, and a great many features are added to further faciliate that! Yep, I have an almost religiously-fanatical admiration for them hehehehe

ALL of the above !!

But most of all for Fred & Uday's willingness to listen to the membership and to KEEP ON putting in inestimable amounts of time to meet the memberships expectations.

What other HOSTS have any of us ever come across in our lifetimes that GIVE so much to their GUESTS.

Was told, rather brusquely, by a lovable yet ruthless critic of mine (to put it mildly!) that my first post in this thread might be misinterpreted. Not that that ever happens to any posts of mine, of course.... (or my bidding :D )

Anyway, nice to write a post that has more than 5 words in it, for a change  This will give me an opportunity to compensate... (and write '...' at the end of every sentence for no apparent reason other than to irritate readers)

Soo, BBO. Wha' i like about it? I will take a different tack than everyone else and describe this indirectly by articulating what i dont like about it. Then you can work out what i DO like about it :)....

The order is incidental, btw. However, perceptive psychologists, amateur or otherwise, amongst you may discover some chronological pattern of catastrophic life events that have contributed to the person i am today: to be blamed, naturally, on Fred Gitelman (Peace be upon him).

So the reasons are as follows:-

1) BBO are the initials of my very first, ever girl-friend: the woman who first broke my fragile heart: i was 4 and a quarter years old and she told me that she was splitting up with me because Howard had a nicer pencil-sharpener (He died tragically from septicaemia 18 years later when doctors found the nib of a pencil in his groin that had been there since childhood). The day she stood up and sat next to him in the Blue Section of the class-room was a day i will never forget! Beatrice Belinda Organ-grinder was her name. Funny name? Well, hyphenated surnames were very popular amongst upwardly-mobile English chartered accountants in the 1960s.

(Her initials changed from BBO to BBS to BBT to BBÄ (he was a Finnish Lapp) to BBT (she married number 2 again) as she flitted merrily from one husband to another). Now, you may ask what has this got to do with BBO?? The answer is nothing whatsoever :)...

but every time i log on to BBO, I get a slight spasm in my left ventricle as i nostalgically remember the times Beatrice, MYYY one and only BBO, and I used to sit outside the cupboard where Mr Shingles (aka Fuhrer to his pupils) used to keep the potties and the spare underwear for those of us who forgot where the toilets were situated: holding each others hand; comparing how swollen our thumbs were; singing Hungarian folk nursery-rhymes in complete disharmony and sharing our peanut-butter-and-jam sandwiches with chocolate-and-marmalade-and-crushed-salt-and-vinegar-crisps dip.

For this i blame Fred: if only he knew how coming up with the acronym BBO instead of another one would affect me!

Ooops. Just saw the time! There are 3 other reasons why i DONT like BBO. Might continue them later.
