In a tournament allowing undos the following happened:

North: 1♥
East: Pass
South: 2♣ - asks for undo!

The undo is accepted and South now bids 1♠. EW now think this looks like a misthink not a mismouse and call the director. What should he do?

South's hand btw:

Yes, this is a rethink. I suppose the play should go on and afterwards the TD can adjust if it's likely that opps were damaged. This will be difficult to assess. I don't allow undos as a TD.

IMO This not an immediate correction of an inadvertent bid but a purposeful correction and so law 25B applies. LHO can accept the substituted call and the auction can proceed as normal or

25B2b1 LHO can reject the substitued call and let the first call stand and North must pass at her next turn to call OR

25B2b2 LHO can reject the substitued call and South can make any other legal call but receive no greater than A- for the board. (UI from withdrawn calls and lead penalties also exist)

By granting an undo did LHO accept a change of call?

It is impossible to handle this type of problem correctly with the BBO software.
my work around is to allow undo's only for clearly inadvertant bids. Undo's are off, the TD has to be involved.

"Play on. Call me back after the play, EW, if you think you were damaged."

If I find they were, I adjust the score.

I'm told that nobody in online bridge gives a damn about the rules, so I suppose I can make one up, if I have to. B)

I like your workaround.

When i allow undo's during the auction in tournaments, it is for obvious misclicks. One rule of this, you can not change both denomination and level.

Thus, you can change a 1H to 1S bid, of even 1H to 1NT. You can change 2H to 3H. What you can't do is change level and denomination, so 2C to 1S would be a violation. I would give average minus to the person who tried to do this and average plus to the other pair, and the hand could not be finished.
