1) Do you agree with your second pass?

No I don't agree, I think the hand is too good to pass the first time. I would bid 1NT.

Now I can't pass of course, I'd like to make a sensible invite but I don't have one. 4H!
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

1. Yes, but only because I dislike all other calls more than I dislike pass. Playing with a partner who rarely makes 4 card overcalls I would probably raise to 2.

2. Why shouldn't a 3m bid here be similar to a "3.5 heart" bid? Seems right. I would bid 3 and if pard bids 3 then I would bid 4.

I would have bid 1N the first time, but at MP pass is fine. No big deal either way.

Wow@ considering this a 3.5 heart bid, if I made a cuebid it would be to try for slam. Partner bid 2H freely in an auction where his LHO might easily have had a trap pass and where his partner has shown weakness. He also chose to bid 2H rather than to double so his hand probably has shape rather than just HCP. I think this is an easy game force, I would not try for slam, so 4H. I would raise to 3H with 5 trumps and zero points FWIW. Or with JT KJxx xxx xxxx.

Agree with pass. I'm supposed to find a call with a random 8 caount when pard overcalls?

Now I bid 4.

Ok it didn't take long but I am convinced already I underbid with 3. Go figure.

No, but with prime 9 counts and JT of partner's suit you are.

Must partner be 5-5 here? If so, must he have a hand too strong for "weak Michaels"

If yes, yes, then I see your point. Actually I guess it's not that easy to construct a hand where 4h is a bad contract.

#1 yes, due to a lack of reasonable alternatives,
the only remote alternative to pass would be 2S,
and I am not sure, that I would bid this

#2 3H, partner will bid 4H if it makes
Pass is out, I owe partner a sign of life and
partnership knowledge helps a lot to get this
right

1) I can't resist to bid something, so it it will be 1NT for me.

2) Now, I don't think 3 is enough, so let's go for 4...

(1) No. I would have bid 1NT.

(2) 3C or 3D would obviously show a strong invitation in hearts. However, I'd bid 4H.
My spots in partner's suits suggest that he has a decent hand, and the fact that he doesn't have these may discourage him from accepting the invitation.

Also, if I just invite he will expect a hand that has improved, rather than one that has underbid. This may lead him to place me with a singleton spade rather than the chunky doubleton that I actually possess.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

1) Disagree with the 2nd pass. Obvious 1NT IMO.
2) 4
Kind regards,
