I was playing in MBT tonight, and with RHO dealer the auction went:
(1) 2 (2) 4
(5) P (6) AllPass

Partner led A, dummy had Kxx, and declarer ruffed! GIB chose to bid 4 with Qxx rather than 4 with AQxxx. What was it smoking? How can it possibly prefer an 8-card fit over a 10-card fit? And even if it was assuming that I might be 5-4, it's still a 9-card fit.

Not only that, but it was favorable vulnerability, and we had a very profitable save in 6 -- down only 4.

Earlier in the same round we had this disaster: My hand was Kxx Qx KJ10xx AKx, and the auction was (me dealer):
1NT 2
2 3
4 4NT
5 7

Down 1 -- he had a 3=5=4=1 16 count and his were A10xxx. It makes if I have Kx (or QJ with the K in the slot), but that's quite an assumption to bid a grand on.

I have grown used to those idiotic bids. Also GIB taking very anti-odds views in the play. However, I did believe until now (see my post) that GIB would make a contract with laydown top tricks.
